Andrew Robert

Our blog has not been letting me upload pictures, so I am soo behind in postings. Here are the first few pictures of our baby boy, Andrew Robert. He was born March 22 at 5:46 p.m. and weighed 7 lb. 10 oz and was 21 inches long.
We had a very long day in the hospital, but it was an amazing time, especially when we heard Drew's first cries. My water broke at 12:45 in the middle of the night, and we checked into the hospital around 1:15 a.m. My contractions started around 1:45, and progressed normally but slowly throughout the morning. They came in around 9:00 a.m. and told me it was going to be a long day, so I requested the epidural then. =+)
They started to try to push pitocin, but Drew's heart rate would drop, so they kept taking me back off of it. Then I had to stay on my left side starting at 11 a.m. because my back or right side would make his heart rate drop too. But we still thought everything was moving along, and when the nurses came in around 3 p.m., they told me I was dialated to a 7 or 8.
But when my doctor came in around 4:45, he told us I was just to a 4. Drew was actually stuck in the birth canal, and what the nurses had felt was really just his cone head that was getting sucked down. He told us to start thinking C section, but it wasn't an emergency then, and he wanted to give it one more hour before we made the final decision.
We were scared, but thankfully since we have known several people who had to do C sections, we had talked about it and always kept it in our minds as a possibility. We brought our moms back in the room and prayed for Drew's safety, and about 20 minutes after the doctor had left the room, everyone came back in and said that Drew's heart rate was not doing well and we were going to prep for the C section right away.

Greg put on his scrubs, they took me to the surgery room, and within about 20 minutes, we heard Drew's first little cries. All I can say is that God is truly amazing. We couldn't believe that this little precious baby was all ours. It truly is love at first site, even though our little guy was bright purple with a four inch cone head and a bruised mouth. =+)
